We have killed the Son of God
Jesus was condemned because he threatened the authority of those whose power is not based on truth or on obedience to God's law. It often feels today that we are living in Good Friday, that the Son of God is dead and that we have killed him. Science, Politics, Psychology all found no more need for a meddling savior. Biblical Scholarship discovered that Jesus probably did not say any of his lines or perform any of his miracles. We have banished Jesus from our towns and cities, and nailed him up outside. But the scientists, psychologists and financial planners who promised us silver and gold and happiness if we would trust in them instead of in Jesus have all disappointed us. And we mourn the death of the Son of God, and pray that he will say of those who killed him today what he said of those who nailed him to the cross, "Father forgive them, for they do not know what they do." The cross of Christ is our only hope for salvation.
