Why is Gmail still beta?

Gmail just turned 5 years old. Once a tiny start-up operation that you had to join by invitation only, it now serves mail to millions of users on a daily basis. So why is it still listed as "beta?" That's like having a five-year-old child still wearing diapers.

Nobody can find the keys to the vault that they have to go into to turn off the "beta" flag.

I hope Gmail never leaves "Beta" status. If they do, they'll lose their edge. By far the best service in their arena.

They are not confident still whether they got it right yet :)) ... Microsoft came with two operating systems within this time frame and google is still Beta ..haaaaaaaaaaa :))

And Vista is less of a beta product than Gmail ;)? Maybe Microsoft is just more cocky when labeling its products.

It's a great service, so they don't need to worry, but keeping the bar low doesn't hurt.

Scratch that... maybe "Gmail Beta" is the name of the service. Quick, check where they put the little r with the circle on it. If it's after the "beta" then I'm right!

Not at all serious.
